Colt Express
Gameplay Overview
Colt Express is a delightfully chaotic, cinematic train robbery game where players step into the boots of rival bandits attempting to rob a literal, 3D cardboard train. Your targets are bags of cash, priceless gems, and heavily guarded briefcases—but you also have to worry about a roaming Sheriff and your fellow bandits punching, shooting, and shoving you out of the way.
The engine of the game is action programming. Each round, players take turns playing action cards (Move, Change Floors, Shoot, Punch, Loot, or Move the Sheriff) into a single, shared stack based on the round's blueprint. The twist? Cards are played sequentially, but they aren't resolved yet—you are planning your moves in the blind. To add to the confusion, the train sometimes enters a dark tunnel, forcing everyone to play their cards completely face-down!
Once the programming phase ends, the lead player flips the stack over and resolves the actions one by one. If you programmed a punch but your target moved earlier, you end up aggressively punching the air. If you shoot someone, you gunk up their hand with useless bullet cards, while emptying your own revolver grants a sweet $1,000 "Gunslinger" bonus at the end of the game.

Our thoughts
Our friend Dan introduced us to this one at a game night, and it is easily one of the most ridiculous and purely joyful games we have ever played. We had an absolute blast with it. What makes it so brilliant is that it hits a perfect sweet spot: you can absolutely min-max it and try to out-think everyone's programming, or you can just lean into the silly fun and enjoy the ride.
We particularly loved the tension of the tunnel rounds where everything goes blind. Madeline is already plotting to show this to her family—it’s just one of those games you want to gather around and turn into a holiday tradition.
Try this if you like...
Controlled chaos and "Jesus take the wheel" vibes
You enjoy making smart, tactical plans upfront, but you're more than happy to let out a massive laugh when your strategy goes completely off the rails.
Wacky, whimsical player interaction
Perfect if you love messing with your friends in a lighthearted way where getting shot or punched feels like a comedy sketch rather than a personal attack.
Thoughtful, unique table presence
A physical 3D cardboard train complete with decorative cacti and skulls that instantly makes people stop and look.
The perfect gateway ambassador
An incredible tool to show non-gamers that modern board games can be deeply strategic, incredibly interactive, and worlds away from boring roll-and-write classics.
A pure laugh-out-loud experience
A game designed around smiles, funny moments, and creating memorable table traditions rather than melting your brain with heavy math.
