Flip Pick Towers

Gameplay Overview
Flip Pick Towers is a charming, whimsical "flip-and-draw" game set in the mythical fairytale kingdom of Pilipalod. Following a sudden magical mishap that completely vanished the royal castle, players act as master architects tasked with sketching a glorious new home for the displaced royal family.
The core mechanical puzzle centers on structural stability. Each turn, three cards are flipped into a central marketplace display. All players simultaneously choose one card to sketch onto their individual grid sheets, constructing distinct vertical towers. The numbers on the floors represent architectural strength: you must build stable foundations, meaning floor values must strictly descend as your towers climb higher (e.g., a stability 8 floor cannot sit on top of a stability 7 floor).
As you construct rooms, you unlock columns of resources like fabric, glass, gold, and magical beans, allowing you to adorn your blueprint with banners, windows, creeping beanstalks, and interconnecting bridges that temporarily bypass stability limits. Fussy noble cards—Queen Blodwen, King Llew, and Princess Dillie—act as shifting, highly variable scoring objectives with distinct room-placement preferences (such as the Queen wanting to be flanked perfectly by giant beanstalks). Beware of the two pesky dragons hiding in the deck: when they fly over, you must either wipe out a hard-earned bag of gold to buy them off or place them over a tower, permanently blocking any further upward construction.

Review
We usually tend to be quite hesitant to pick up roll-and-write or flip-and-write styles, as we typically reach for tabletop board games that offer a high level of aggressive mental stimulation and complex physical boards. However, Flip Pick Towers completely won us over with its peaceful, imaginative loop. Ollie particularly loved slowing down his pace to focus on making his castle look detailed and beautifully decorated.
As a category, flip-and-draw games aren't things we bring out for heavy strategic showdowns; rather, they are the specific titles we save for a cozy cafe visit, a casual afternoon over a cup of coffee with friends, or moments when our cognitive capacity is totally drained and we need a relaxing wind-down. The fact that it doesn't hit our table every week isn't a reflection of its quality—it's just a reflection of our usual heavy-board preferences. When it does make it to the table, the experience is wonderfully sweet, easy to parse, and a total joy to play.
